The problem with the the moral imperative is that it doesn't buy us much when anayzing conflict. People should do a lot of things, but they don't, and that's why they end up in conflicts. In the midst of a conflict someone needs something practical to use to intervene, not to be told "You should have...." Many possess this tendency to moralize instead of presenting very practical ideas about what can be done to improve the situation.
